WEEK SEVEN SCHEDULE

Dubuque Fighting Saints v Heresy Hunters

Zealous Zucchettos v. Crusading Croziers

Bye week for Amazing Acolytes & Rocky Mountain Hierarchs

2013 Fantasy Bishball Schedule

Below is the schedule.  The season will last thirteen weeks, with 12 games being played.

Because there are only 6 teams, with 3 teams in each division, the scheduling was a little bit more convoluted than if there were eight teams, but no matter.  The way I broke it down is that each team will play their conference opponents three times each, and the three teams in the other conference twice.  That comes to 12 games.  The reason for it taking 13 weeks is that I included “bye” weeks in the middle of the season to accommodate the fact that there are six teams.

The season begins Monday May 6.  “Week One” is from May 6 – May 12.  Scoring posts have to be published before noon on the Tuesday following the week of play.  For instance, for Week One that ends May 12, the scoring post has to be up by noon May 14.  Noon is based on the timezone in which you live.

Please note that the teams are given by their abbreviation.

Week One (5/6-5/12)            HH v. DFS             ZZ v. CC               RMH v. AA

Week Two (5/13-5/19)          HH v. RMH           ZZ v. AA              DFS v. CC

Week Three (5/20-5/26)          DFS v. RMH          CC v. AA              HH v. ZZ

Week Four (5/27-6/2)              HH v. CC                DFS v. AA           RMH v. ZZ

Week Five (6/3-6/9)             HH v. AA                DFS v. ZZ            RMH v. CC

Week Six (6/10-6/16)             DFS v. RMH         CC v. AA             HH & ZZ “bye” week

Week Seven  (6/17-6/23)      HH v. DFS             ZZ v. CC              AA & RHM “bye” week

Week Eight (6/24-6/30)          HH v. RMH          ZZ v. AA              CC & DFS “bye” week

Weeks Nine through Thirteen are a repeat of Weeks One-Five.

p.s.  As a reminder, here’s how the two conferences breakdown:  Eastern – Almighty Acolytes; Crusading Croziers; Zealous Zucchettos.  Western:  Dubuque Fighting Saints; Heresy Hunters; Rocky Mountain Hierarchs.

Quick Note About The Bye Weeks

The Rules & Scheduling Committee has determined that manager’s are not required to use the rotation they would have used if there had been no bye week, when you resume play post bye week.  In other words, you have the option to use any rotation you want – even the one you used for the week prior to your bye week.  The same rule applies for the duration of the season afterwards – you cannot field any bishop for more than three successive weeks.

The committee would also like to clarify rotations for the playoffs.  Teams that clinch a playoff position may field any rotation during the playoffs. For instance, if your team advances to the finals, you can play the same rotation that you fielded in the semi-final round.  In other words – play your best team.  Playoffs are entirely different from the regular season in that regard.

The Schedule

I see that most of the managers have published some test posts – so far so good!  There was even some smack getting thrown down.  Excellent!

Below is the schedule.  The season will last thirteen weeks, with 12 games being played.

The season begins Monday June 11.  “Week One” is from June 11- June 17.  Scoring posts have to be published before noon on the Tuesday following the week of play.  For instance, for Week One that ends June 17, the scoring post has to be up by noon June 19.  Noon is based on the timezone in which you live.  I think that makes it fair (and less confusing for Rebecca, too, by the way.  :-p)

Please note that the teams are given by their abbreviation.

Week One (6/11-6/17)            HH v. MM             ZZ v. CC               RMH v. AA

Week Two (6/18-6/24)          HH v. RMH           ZZ v. AA              MM v. CC

Week Seven  (7/23-7/29)      HH v. MM             ZZ v. CC              AA & RHM “bye” week

Week Eight (7/30-8/5)          HH v. RMH          ZZ v. AA              CC & MM “bye” week

Weeks Nine through Thirteen are a repeat of Weeks One-Five.

Then come the playoffs.  Top two teams in each conference play for the Conference Title during Week 14 (9/10-9/16).  This means that two teams will not be in the playoffs.  The FBL does not operate under the principle that everyone is a winner.  There will be only one winner.  The Conference Title winners play for Fantasy Bishball Championship in Week 15 (9/17-9/23).

Please do me a favor – when you publish your scoring post, indicate somewhere in the post who your opponent is for that week.  It’ll make it easier for the FBL Scoring and Standings Department to update standings and such.  Thank you!

The draft order will be published on Saturday.  If you will be unable to participate in the draft – so far, the Almighty Acolytes manager can’t attend – please ask one of the other managers to be your proxy.  The AA manager has asked me to draft for him, and he sent me his draft order.  Hopefully everyone else will be able to make it.  I’ve got the event set up to launch 11:00 PM Eastern on Sunday.  It shouldn’t take that long – no more than 30 minutes or so.

Good luck!

League Notes

The FBL Commissioner’s Office regretfully reports that two teams have notified the commissioner, that due to extenuating circumstances, they will be unable to participate in the upcoming season.  The teams – the Dubuque Fighting Saints and the Vicious Vicars – will not be fielding teams, and their rosters are declared empty.

So, the FBL will be comprised of six teams, still in two conferences.  In the Eastern Conference are The Crusading Croziers, The Zealous Zucchettos and The Almighty Acolytes.  The Western Conference is comprised of The Heresy Hunters, The Mighty Mitres and The Rocky Mountain Hierarchs.

As of today, two teams – the Croziers and the Hunters – have declared their protected players from last year’s teams:  Bishop Coyne and Archbishop Slattery.  The Mighty Mitres and Zealous Zucchettos have yet to announce their protected players – please do so before Saturday.

In addition, the managers for the Hunters and the Acolytes have yet to accept the invitations to publish at the blog.  Please do so before Saturday.

The FBL Scheduling Office will publish the season’s schedule published on Friday June 8. Due to the fewer number of teams, the league will last twelve weeks (3 games against each team within the conference; 2 games against each team in the opposing conference).

That is all!

One Week To The Draft!

June 10, 2012 11:00 PM EST

Hello, sports fans, and welcome to the final week leading up to the draft of the Fantasy Bishball season!  A few housekeeping notes for everyone involved.

There will be eight teams competing this season!  Down from last year, but no matter.

Returning from Season 1 are The Crusading Croziers, The Heresy Hunters, The Duquense Fighting Saints, The Mighty Mitres, The Zealous Zucchettos and The Vicious Vicars.  New this season are The Rocky Mountain Hierarchs (managed by Gregg), and a currently-unnamed-team, managed by Archdeaconsmiter.  So welcome, new guys!

The league will still be comprised of two conferences – the Eastern and the Western.  Eastern teams are the Croziers, the Fighting Saints, the Vicars and the Zucchettos.  The Western Conference will be the Hunter, the Mitres, the Hierarchs and the currently-unnamed-team.  Unless of course the currently-unnamed team is somewhat eastern (based on its manager’s physical location), in which case the Vicars will go back to the Western Conference (the manager is currently living in Michigan, but he was in Alaska.  So we’ll see).

What still needs to happen, is for returning teams to announce which player from last year they will be keeping for Season II.  Leave your choice in the combox so that all the other managers know who will NOT be available for the draft.  The Croziers will be retaining Bishop Coyne (Auxiliary Bishop from Indianapolis).  Please do this as soon as you can so that the other managers can begin formulating their mock draft lists.  Thanks!

Also, before the end of the week, I will be posting the draft order.  Now – returning managers will not have any first round selections – the new managers will have the only picks.  Rounds 2-4 will include all managers – I basically pull names out of a bag, the first name drawn gets the first pick, the second one the next pick, and so on.  Since Season 1 didn’t officially conclude, I can’t order the picks from worst to best (like they do in pro sports, at least for the first round or so), so it’s going to be random.

As soon as the currently-unnamed-team comes up with a name for their team, I can work on the season schedule.  With eight teams, four in each conference, I have two ideas on how to schedule.  One, play each team twice during the season, which comes to a 14 week season; or two, play each team in your own conference 3 times, and each team in the other conference one time, which comes to a 13 week season.  Tell me what you think – a *slightly* longer season to compete against everyone twice, or a *slightly* shorter season to play your immediate rivals more often, which would mean more competitive play within your own division?  I’m leaning towards the 13 week season.  Your thoughts?

If you haven’t already, remember to add this blog to your reader, or ‘follow’ the blog, so that you won’t miss any of the posts – especially once the season starts.  It’ll be fun to see what the other teams are doing, as well as reading about what other bishops are saying and doing.

And finally – if you haven’t accepted the invitation to publish here at the blog, please do so!  You won’t be able to publish your scoring posts without the permission!
